Learn.Terrific.Life ("we," "us," "our") builds math practice for students in grades 2–10: SSAT and ISEE math for grades 5–10, and grade-level math practice for grades 2–10. Math only — the SSAT and ISEE also have verbal, reading and writing sections, and we do not offer those. This policy explains, plainly, what we collect, why, who it's shared with, and how a parent or teacher can review or delete it. The short version
Only a parent or teacher creates an account and adds a student — never the child directly. A student's own device is set up with a one-time code from that adult, not by the student entering any personal information. We collect grade level, an emoji avatar, a first name or nickname (never a required legal name), and practice activity — never a photo, never audio or video, never precise location. Nothing is sold. Nothing is shared with advertisers. There are no ads anywhere in this app. Deleting an account deletes the data behind it — genuinely, not a "mark inactive."
Who this policy covers
This policy covers two kinds of people who use Learn.Terrific.Life:
- Account holders — the parent, guardian, or teacher who signs up, and who creates and manages every student profile under their account.
- Students — the children or classroom students an account holder adds. A student never signs up on their own; their profile is created by the account holder, and their own device (if they use one) is connected with a short code the account holder generates, not by the student providing any personal information.
Information we collect
From the account holder, when they sign up or sign in: an email address, and — if they choose Google sign-in — the basic profile information Google shares for that (name and email). We also support signing in with a one-time emailed link instead of a password.
About each student profile the account holder creates: a first name or nickname (whatever's typed in — a full legal name is never required), a grade level, an emoji avatar picked from a fixed set (never an uploaded photo), and which test they're preparing for.
Practice activity, once a student starts using it: which questions were shown and answered, whether the answer was correct, how long each question took, which multiple-choice options were crossed out along the way, and whether a hint was used. This is what powers adaptive difficulty, progress tracking, and the topic-by-topic breakdown a parent or teacher sees.
Student-device pairing: if a student practices on their own device, that device holds a one-time pairing code and an anonymous session with no personal information attached to it directly — the connection to a real student profile lives on the account holder's side.
Basic technical information: browser type, screen size, and — only when something goes wrong — an error message and the screen it happened on, so we can fix bugs. We do not use this for tracking, profiling, or advertising, and it is never combined with a student's practice history for any purpose beyond debugging.
Information we do not collect
- No photos or video of any kind, and no camera access at all.
- No audio or microphone access at all.
- No precise or continuous location tracking.
- No payment or billing information — Learn.Terrific.Life is currently free, and we don't collect this today.
- No behavioral-advertising data, and no advertising trackers of any kind — no ad pixels, no retargeting, no data sold or handed to a broker.
On analytics. We may use a privacy-respecting analytics service to count things like how many people opened a page or finished a sample test, so we can tell what is working. If we do, it is limited to aggregate, whole-site numbers — how many, not who. It is never given a student's practice history, their name, or anything that identifies an individual child, and it is never used for advertising, retargeting, or building a profile of anyone. This is deliberately narrower than what most sites permit themselves, and we would rather write the narrow version down than leave ourselves room we do not intend to use.
How we use this information
- To run practice tests and missions, and to adapt question difficulty to what a specific student has actually shown they know.
- To identify patterns in a student's wrong answers (a real misconception, not just "got it wrong") and build a targeted next mission around it.
- To generate a plain-language "how they're doing" summary for the parent or teacher — see the AI section below for exactly what's involved.
- To keep the service reliable — diagnosing bugs, preventing abuse, and responding to support requests.
AI processing and who we share information with
We use a small number of outside services to run Learn.Terrific.Life. We only ever send each one the minimum it needs to do its job, and none of them are permitted to use it for their own advertising or resell it:
- Supabase — hosts our database and handles sign-in. Account and practice data is stored here.
- Vercel — hosts the application itself.
- Anthropic (Claude) — generates and reviews practice questions. Separately, if a parent or teacher opens the AI-written "Assessment" or "Plan" summary, that request sends Anthropic the student's first name (or nickname) and aggregated performance statistics — accuracy by topic, timing patterns, mission history — so it can write the summary. It does not receive login credentials, an email address, or any other account information.
- OpenAI — used only to independently double-check that a practice question's stated correct answer is actually correct, as a second opinion alongside Anthropic's own review. It works on the question content itself, not on any individual student's answers or personal information.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers — full stop.
Children's privacy
Learn.Terrific.Life is used by children, and we've built it around one rule: we do not collect personal information directly from a child. Every student profile is created by a parent or teacher, who provides consent by creating that account and adding the student in the first place.
- A student's own device is connected using a short, one-time code the account holder generates from their own dashboard — the student never enters an email, a password, or any personal information to set it up.
- We only ask for what the practice engine actually needs: a first name or nickname, a grade level, and an emoji avatar — never a full legal name, a photo, a birthdate, or an address.
- There is no chat, messaging, or any way for a student to communicate with anyone outside their own family or classroom through Learn.Terrific.Life.
- There are no ads, and we do not market or advertise to children in any form.
- A parent or teacher can review, edit, or permanently delete a student's profile and every piece of data tied to it at any time from within their own account. Deletion is immediate and genuine — the underlying records are removed, not just hidden.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information outside of this parent- or teacher-managed model, please contact us at [email protected] and we will investigate and delete it promptly.
Cookies and local storage
We use your browser's own storage to keep you signed in (scoped to that browser tab) and, on a shared or student-only device, to remember which student profiles have already been connected to it. If we add the aggregate analytics described above, it may set a simple first-party cookie or none at all. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Data retention
We keep account and practice data for as long as the account stays active, so the adaptive difficulty and progress history keep working correctly. An account holder can request full deletion of their account, or of a specific student's data, at any time — see the next section.
Your rights and choices
As an account holder, you can at any time:
- Review what's stored about your account and every student you've added, directly in the app.
- Correct a student's name, grade, or avatar yourself, whenever you like.
- Permanently delete a single student's profile, or your entire account and every family member's data with it — this is a real, immediate deletion, not a deactivation.
- Ask us a question about any of this at [email protected] — including a request to access or delete data through us directly, if you'd rather not do it yourself in the app.
Security
We use industry-standard technical safeguards — including per-family data isolation at the database level, so one family's data is never readable by another — and we never store passwords in plain text (Google sign-in and one-time emailed links mean we frequently don't handle a password at all). No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable, real steps to protect what we hold.
Where data is processed
Learn.Terrific.Life is operated from the United States, and the infrastructure providers listed above are U.S.-based companies. If you're using Learn.Terrific.Life from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information in a way that matters, we'll update this page with a new effective date, and we'll make a reasonable effort to let account holders know directly for any change affecting how we handle a student's information.
